Today with my new list and a few newly opened establishments, I decided to hit the road again. Bad move… I remember reading in one of the many articles and resource material we have available to use, not to prospect on Fridays, well I tried anyways… didn’t work so well…

Well… Mother Nature decided to hit the Midwest with a nice snow storm and very cold weather for the end of last week. That means no school for the kids… I think everyone can figure out what I was doing for the rest of the week…

Today I went to the library and did some research on my list, cleaning it up a bit. I also followed up with a prospect that was a no-show in December and set another appointment for the beginning of February.

Back after a very long and somewhat relaxing holiday. Today I decided to put some more rubber on the road and check back with a few of the prospects I’ve been working on. The general consensus was they were all glad 2009 is behind them and are excited about 2010. I didn’t get any sit downs, but they are all starting to recognize me.

These last few weeks have been very tuff on me. First, I was sick and out of commission for a couple of days, then my kids were sick. My kids were very polite and patient when they were sick. When one of them was sick, the other waited for their sibling to get healthy before they decided to get sick. They couldn’t just be sick all at the same time. Of course I had no time to devote to the business. I did do some planning for the New Year and have come up with some exciting strategies to continue to grow. Now the kids are off school for the next two weeks and I will be spending time with them along with traveling over the holidays. Everyone, be safe over the holidays and I will check back in 2010, take care!

I again had family in town for the week of Thanksgiving and had no time to devote to my business.

Today I cold called a few places and made a few connections. One of the owners was interested and asked if I could come back in a few days. I was able to nail down an exact time and day for him to devote some time to me. I did hear from some to check back with them after the new year. I fear I will start to hear this a lot, from my previous experience in sales, this was very common.

I reconnected with an old friend today and explained what I do and we have scheduled a lunch at a bar where he knows the owner and will make an introduction. This establishment has two locations in the area and will be a good one to get. Wish me luck…, but for some reason, ‘the harder I work, the luckier I get…’ go figure!

Today I met with the owner of the restaurant that is using another service which I have previously mentioned. He takes an inventory every day, and then inputs sales to get his variance. I was able to get him to agree to an initial audit and will be starting soon. I think it will be challenging to overcome daily verses weekly, but I will do some homework and present the multiple value-adds we have that the other does not.

The end of last week was busy with some family that came in from out of town. It was good to see everyone; however, it was good to see them leave…

A couple of days ago I received a referral from Lee Morris, Senior Partner in Oklahoma, Nebraska and both North and South Dakota, and today I was able to get in touch with the owner. She was already familiar with the service and very interested. She agreed to the initial audit and will we be starting that in a few weeks.

Later in the day, I reconnected with a COI (Center of Influence) that had owned a local magazine and did a lot of advertising for restaurants and bars. She said she would look through her contacts and see who would be good for me to meet.

Today I had lunch with my mentor and we went to the prospect’s restaurant from day 18. The owner was in a meeting; however he did come over and briefly talk with us. During that conversation we decided to meet next week and discuss the service in greater detail. If everybody remembers, the owner is currently using a competitors’ product. This prospect is on my A list because he has gotten 5 other restaurants to use the product he is using. When I show him how superior our service is over what he is currently using, I’m sure he will get me in contact with the other owners.
On a side note, most will have realized I meet with my mentor quite often. I believe having a mentor helps in my professional development and over the years we have become very close friends. As I progress along with Bevinco, I will be looking for a mentor within the organization.

I had lunch with a new COI (Center of Influence) that owns a company installing entertainment systems both residential and commercial. He has done a number of bars/restaurants and some very high profile systems in the area. He explained he’d make some introductions for me.

Today I spent a few hours in the library, probably more time then my four years at college. So that is what those places look like… I was researching my prospect list.

Since my last post I haven’t had much time to devote to my business. Family travel has taken most of my time. It should be noted, during the entire time since coming back from training I have been in contact with Dave Schultz, business partner in NE Calgary. He and I had training together and have become pretty good friends. In those conversations we discuss things we are trying and encourage each other to keep plugging along.

Today I met with an owner and discussed the service. He said he had heard of us and was interested but needed to talk it over with his wife. I told him I’d come back in a few weeks so we could get the service started.

The past week I have been out and about trying to get in to see the owners without much success. I’ve been getting shut down by the hostess/bartender and not making it to the owners. I haven’t been making small talk with them so I didn’t tip my hand as to what I do. I’ll be changing that strategy and will talk with the people up front and get to know them a little. Then when I stop in again, I’ll be a familiar face.

I had lunch with a former business partner that currently works with a few bars/restaurants. We had lunch at one of his clients’ restaurant and introduced me to the owner. The owner explained they use another system based out of Lawrence, KS, a local company. This company ‘groups’ bottles together, then weighs the grouping. The owner or manager does the work and inputs the weights and sales into a database and a variance is produced. I asked why he choose this company and he said, ‘they are local and there was nobody else in town’. He explained he was very happy with the service, I did give him my card and will stop and see him in the very near future.

Today I decided to put some leather on the road and stop in to see a few prospects. My intention was to introduce myself and find a time to schedule a meeting so I could give the decision maker a full presentation. I wasn’t thinking I’d actually give a presentation today; however, it didn’t work out that way. The first place a walk into, introduce myself, ask for some of his time later in the week, he tells me he has time now and we sit down. Poor guy, I dumped everything on him and most certainly overwhelmed him. Big surprise he didn’t want the service. My take away for the meeting was I needed to work on my delivery and do a better job of organizing my thoughts.

I had lunch today with a COI (center of influence) of mine from my time as a banker. Again, I discussed Bevinco and how we can help each other.

Today I had lunch with my mentor so I could introduce and explain the business to him. During our conversation, he mentioned a few people he knew that would be very beneficial in helping me grow my business and will make the introductions.
